There are great expectations for the performance of one of the most promising song-writers and singers of our musical panorama.

One of the Incontragiovani events planned for August 17, from 6.30 to 9pm, at the Tre Fontane Abbey (Pratone), part of the review organized by the Expò Missio 2000 association.

Gatto Panceri is not one of the personalities who, to be seen, captures audiences with little tunes, easily sung ( of course perhaps even those are necessary) and/or appearances on TV. His popularity is the result of years of work as a musician and an author, which has led him to success exclusively for his qualities, his sensitivity in writing texts which talk of life, and for his generosity, for having given to others, songs which reached the hit parade in recent years (it is enough to think of "Vivo per lei" sung by Andrea Bocelli and "C’e da fare" sung by Giorgia).

Gatto (his school companions gave him this name...better "Luigi Giovanni Maria!", did not improvise to become a musician, he has a diploma from the Conservatory in classical guitar, harmony and composition, and for several years now he has put his experience as a composer and text writer at the service of youth, first at the Centro Europeo Toscolano, the Mogol school of music and then for Hope Music, the music school opened by the National Service for Youth pastoral of the Italian Bishops’ Conference.

This also helps us to understand something else: for Gatto Panceri the GMG World Youth Day is not only a "show case" from which to perform for hundreds of thousands of young people. No! The GMG will be for him too am occasion to share his faith with all of us and anyone who wants to listen to him and to his songs!

Paolo Vallesi

"The force of life within us…"

Paolo Vallesi is one of the many who say they are shy when interviewed, and he really is, although does not prevent him from making his ideas known in public. He does this through songs which show great powerful force of expression and considerable taste for melody.

We will meet his talent and his warmth (true to his Tuscan origin) during the GMG on August 16, between 6.30 and 9. p.m. at the Tre Fontane Abbey, before the concerts organized by the Expò Missio 2000 association.

Vallesi, a poet of little things and of great emotions, is used to a critical public ( he has taken part in various contests including the Sanremo Festival), made up of persons who listen only to see if your disc is worth buying.

This is not what is expected of the young people at GMG, on the contrary!

He does want to sing, but above all he wants to communicate, to come face to face with us and if we go to listen to him we will certainly expect something more than a "normal" public on a "normal" occasion.

On August 16 the GMG will have only just begun but in two days who knows how many different experiences we will have lived and want to share!

This appointment will be an opportunity to "store" them.

While we wait let’s get ready for the occasions listening to the interview by Concita De Simone, on this page in a few days' time.

The message of Christ is needed, especially to the youth of the Catholic churches where I perform. The young people are hungry for the Truth and it is important to convey the message to them through song and witness.

  8. I went to WYD in Paris in 1997. I truly enjoyed being there with the youth of the world sharing the same beliefs. It was a great experience.

  9. What the WYD 2000 will be for you?

I am thankful to God for giving my husband, myself and our expected child the gift of going to Rome during the Jubilee year. I know it will be a spiritual and enlightening experience. I have never dreamed that I would be able to perform for the youth there. I know it is a special gift from God and I am glad that He has given me the opportunity to be His instrument.
