The Infopoint

Aim and organization

Infopoint, situated in the buildings attached to the Church of San Carlo al Corso, was created with the task of becoming a point of reference for all those who are interested in taking part, in acting as volunteers or sharing in the welcome for  WDY2000.  Aspiring volunteers, young people wanting to take part in the World Day, families willing to offer hospitality to the young pilgrims – large numbers of people have already enquired at this centre of information of the Italian Committee for the 15th WDY.

Infopoint  not only deals with providing useful information. In fact its task is rather to promote initiatives in awareness about the WDY2000 and its meaning.  Thus the staff of Infopoint, (where volunteers are also serving), meet schools, parish representatives and delegations of young people from over the world.  French, Americans, Philippines Lebanese, Argentines – all of these have studied how best to promote WDY 2000 in their respective countries of origin, along with the Italian Committee and the staff of the information point.

Initiatives and proposals

During the month of March, with the approach of the WDY event, there was a notable increase in the number of visitors.  This was partly because in the Infopoint location it is also possible to view the photographic exhibition “The Colours of Joy”, which portrays in skilled photographic images  some of the unforgettable moments of “JMJ’97”, the World Day of Youth held in Paris, which attracted the attention of many people, most of them young, who were passing through the central streets of the French capital at the time.

In recent days two new initiatives of the organising committee have been launched:  “Let’s colour the Roman Nights with the WDY”, and “Leave a message”.  In the first case, posters and adverts will be handed out to the young people of the Roman parishes, to put up (with the permission of the proprietors) in the many places frequented by Rome’s night-lifers.

In these same places, the groups from the parishes, in a widespread information campaign  will let thousands of young people know about WDY2000.  As for “Leave a message!”, this is a videbox through which anyone will be able to say whatever he or she wants about the Jubilee of the Young.  The most interesting, curious or entertaining films will then be published on internet, in the site www.gmg2000.it
