Health assistance |
|
The issue of the safety of pilgrims is one which the Italian Committee for the 15th World Day of Youth is tackling with special attention. Starting with health services, which are provided free for participants in WDY2000, as will in fact be the case for all pilgrims during the Holy Year. Organizzation of the service In case of emergency (serious attacks of illness, accidents or dangerous situations) the S.E.E (Emergency Health Service) is available twentyfour hours a day. It can be contacted by phoning 118, and following the instructions given by the operator. In
all the main locations of the festivities, the PMA’s (Advanced Medical
Points) will be in operation.
These are fixed or mobile structures which can be referred to for any
problem connected with health.
Each PMA is composed of doctors and nurses with special expertise in
handling emergency situations.
There will also be numerous teams of “health advisers” scattered
among the crowds, with the aim of making the possibility of access to the
system of protection and health assistance as widespread as possible.
Apart from intervening swiftly where there is a need, these teams
will be in constant contact with the PMAs, and with the Operations Room,
thus making the first aid service efficient and rapid.
The
pilgrim accommodation sites
are covered by continuous assistance for basic medicine.
Each day, twenty four hours a day, a pool of 300 doctors will
guarantee, free of charge, the possibility of either out-patient or home
consultations. In
the case of hospitalisation, health care will also be free, thanks to an
agreement between the Region of Lazio and the Holy See. tel.: 06.69879615 fax: 06.69880584 e-mail: press@gmg2000.it |
